Day 6: The Northern Oregon Coast

READY TO GO!
We started our trip out by going to breakfast at "The High Wheeler" in Lewis and Clark, by my parents house. It was delicious!! Then we headed South on our big adventure! Notice we're all wearing Beaver shirts.....this was Norah's idea so we could bug Oma and Papa (they are Duck fans!!!!)

The girls with Haystack Rock behind them.
Suspension bridge on the hike to Oswald West State Park.

Oswald West State Park!
A little further South we hiked about 1 mile to Oswald West State Park. This is a beautiful hike, the suspension bridge was fun - it actually leads you to Neahkahnie Mountain trail, but we had to walk across it and take a photo. The beach was beautiful, albeit drizzly, cloudy, and foggy. There were probably 50 body surfers there and we passed a good 20 more coming in as we left! The girls had a great time playing in the sand, climbing on logs and exploring the forest.
Tillamook Cheese Factory
We made a quick stop at the Tillamook Smoke House - not much to see, but of course there was a store! Teriyaki jerky for all! Then we went to the Tillamook Cheese Factory - we took the tour - saw them cutting and wrapping cheese, and we enjoyed tasting a variety of cheese samples. Then of course we had a little ice cream cone! Abigail had Blueberry Cheesecake, Norah had Rootbeer Float, Brett had Peanut Butter Pie, and I tried Sticky Buns......all of it was delicious!!
Cape Meares Lighthouse
In Tillamook we headed West a little more on the Three Capes Scenic drive. It was BUMPY and CURVY, but beautiful. We stopped at Cape Meares, what an amazing view from there! (It reminded me of Hawaii......) We hiked down a little hill to see the light house! We were the 450th visitor today so we got a postcard and the girls got stickers! Unfortunately due to vandalism we were not able to tour the lighthouse.
The Octopus Tree!

Just above the lighthouse there was a trail to see the Octopus Tree, wow, that is ONE BIG TREE! Upon returning to the trailer we discovered that all of our food bins had shaken so hard on the bumpy drive that they had fallen out of the cabinet and the contents lay ALL OVER the floor of the trailer! I spend the next 30 minutes cleaning up and saving as much food as I could! Fun Times!
Beach at Cape Lookout Campground!

A little further down the coast we saw a camp ground, which of course said - FULL! We took a chance to see if they had any sites, let alone ones with hook-ups! The guy that helped Brett said it was rather amazing on a Saturday night, but they did have one site with FULL HOOK-UPS!! THANK YOU JESUS!! The girls needed to be done in the truck for a while......so we set up camp, ate dinner, took a walk, played on the beach and then our friend "drip-drop" came to visit. The drizzle became heavier until we were all a little soaked! We got a fire going, but no one wanted to sit in the drizzle to enjoy it. So we decided to go into the trailer, put on pj's, play games and read books......it was an early bed time for the girls.....but MUCH needed!!! Hopeful for less liquid on tomorrows leg of this wonderful journey!
